With Richmond's top two teams receiving a bye, the feature game this weekend involved the revitalized, reinvigorated and rejuvinated Richmond Third Division. Now known as the Flatliner-Heroes, Richmond took the field at Klahanie against the mighty Capilano 4ths, and the game did not dissapoint. While Caps tallied three in the first half and added a penalty, Richmond was able to counter with a penalty of their own. 20 - 3 was the half time score. At the break, Richmond regrouped and rallied around the spirited play of team captain, and Godfather of the Heroes, James Tracey.
After some unfortunate penalties taken by Richmond, Caps were able to score twice more (one converted) to take a 32 - 3 lead. But like so often happens with great teams, the best was yet to come. Scampering runs by Andrew MacIntyre, Doug Embury and Michael Vernier, combined with the powerful straight ahead movement of Kelsey Thiessen, Greg Greggson and Joe Vernier, resulted in a try for 'Silent' Joe under the posts. More sustained pressure, after Justin Parmar and Josh Stewart hooked up to gallop and straight arm their way up the field resulted in a penalty calmly kicked by Jacob St. Cyr. Final score was 32 - 13, but a huge improvement on the day, as the last time Richmond came to Klahanie as a third side, they received a 99 - 3 hiding. Strong play by the forward pack was the feature of the day, and great pursuit tackling kept the game close.
