Flatliner-Heroes Drain Lakers

The Richmond Rugby Football Club's development team was in action this weekend on the road against Burnaby Lake's fourth side. The 'Flatliner Heroes' as they've been dubbed, are becoming quite the road warriors, playing a full exhibition schedule away from the cosy confines of King George Park. So far the results have been encouraging, as the squad has seen the improvements of some of it's newest members, as well as some good rugby at times, and some fun rugby at others.

Led by their immortal captain, James Tracey, the Heroes took the field against Burnaby as the curtain raiser for the CDI Premier league match between Velox and the home side. And what a curtain raiser it was! Playing down a man for seventy-five of the eighty minutes, the Flatliners were down 12 - 0 at half, and eventually lost 37 - 5 but left many Lakers in their wake, and pushed the home-side around in the loose. While the score was lopsided, there were many postives to take away from the loss. Joe Vernier's line-outs saved the day on many occasions for the red and black; Bryson Castillo and Richard Chen, together known as 'Far-Eastern Promises' made tackle after tackle in the middle of the park. Emeet Duhra, Tracey and Jake St. Cyr ran well with the ball in hand. And of course, the Sexy Ghost himself, Graham Haigh, tallied the team's only try with a boisterous, barn-burning tally assisted by prop Chris Goundan's dive pass. The club is in action again this weekend vs. UBC, 11:30 AM kick-off at Wolfson field. The RRFC's top two teams, (the Reds and Blacks) have the weekend off.
