Starting on Saturday May 28, there will be tryouts for this year’s Fraser Valley West u-16 boys team. This is the first step into representative rugby. The first tryout will be held at South Surrey Athletic Park. This applies to athletes born in the years 1995 and 1996. Be there for 11:00 am. The tryout will go from 11:30am to 2:00pm. The day will consist of skill assessments, fitness and speed testing. Please bring cleats, running shoes, mouth guard and lots of water. Athletes can wear whatever they are comfortable playing in (although preferably rugby shorts, socks, and a jersey or an athletic t-shirt).
The next tryout will be held the following day, Sunday May 29 at 2:00pm. This will also take place at South Surrey Athletic Park. Athletes should come early, as there is a touring u-15 side from England playing a Bayside u-15 side starting at 12:30 pm. The Sunday tryout will consist of a trial game. Players should bring cleats and mouth guards, as jerseys will be provided. Attendance at both trials is crucial, and if one or both are missed it will be difficult to make the team.
After these trials, the coaching staff will choose a team of the top 25 players to represent the Fraser Valley West at the Provincial Regional Championships (PRC) from July 08-11, were players will then have the chance to be selected to team British Columbia for the National championships.
South Surrey Athletic Park is located at 20th Ave and 148th Street (Semiahmoo Secondary School Rugby Fields)
